Dear Chevrah,
There has been such excitement in the air here at Temple Beth Shalom Religious School. Registration was well attended. The children had an opportunity to meet their teachers and friends, parents had a chance to greet other parents and staff. A nice day was had by all who attended. For those of you who were not able to attend, I’d like to introduce you to our staff. Teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten is Dorothy Rademaker; Grades 1 & 2, Leah Ehrlich; Grade 3, Florence Lang; Grades 4- 7 Judaic Studies, Shelly Lang; Grades 4-7 Hebrew, Harvey Taub; and Confirmation, Rabbi Ephraim Rubinger. We are also very blessed to have a dynamic art department this year-Michele Faulconer, Lauren Taub, and Marcelle Schvimmer.
I’d like to ask all of you to save the date of Saturday, December 11, 2010, for our Religious School Fundraiser Concert and Art Show called “SHIRU L’ADONAI SHIR CHADASH,” “SING UNTO THE LORD A NEW SONG.” We are reuniting our Adult Choir, which will meet right after Yom Kippur. Our first rehearsal will be on Thursday evening, September 23, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. We are fortunate to have Leslie Hammes to accompany us. If you are interested in singing in our choir, please call me or Dee Berger.
Our first day of school was amazing. For those of you who could not attend, we dedicated our new Temple Library. It was such a meaningful way of opening school. Many thanks to Rabbi Rubinger, Joseph Switt, Ted Schvimmer, Terri Stein, Leah & Blaine Ehrlich, Mark, Rachel, Katie, Emily, and especially, Julie Rochlin, who has worked tirelessly to bring this dream to reality. Julie has honored us by accepting the position of Librarian. Please check with Julie for the library days and hours.

We're glad you asked! In addition to a Congregational Library for the self-pacing scholar, we have several Jewish Life Enrichment programs including adult education Hebrew, Jewish practices, and Torah study information.
On August 1st, 2009 our weekly Torah class will resume.
Rabbi Rubinger will be teaching a major adult ed course in the fall immediately after Yom Kippur. The course is titled "The Holocaust: The Jewish Response." The first class will be Thursday, October 1st, at 7:30PM. The class will go for approximately eight weekly sessions. This course is aimed at debunking the highly popular, widespread, but utterly false notion that the victims of the Holocaust went to their deaths "like sheep to the slaughter". The class will be devoted to learning about the many ways - physical, cultural and spiritual - the Holocaust victims resisted their Nazi oppressors.
The adult education parts of Tanach Tangents: Exploring Tanach Together have begun. A PEREK YOMI PROGRAM – We, as a congregation, will be learning together a Chapter a Day of Tanach beginning with Joshua, the first book after the Five Books of the Torah. I will be sending out e-mails daily to give a very brief synopsis of the chapter for that day. Perek means “chapter” and yomi means “day”. Hence, Perek Yomi means a Chapter a Day. This program began Monday, October 5, 2009. To be included, join the Temple e-mailing list.
