Poinsettias 2007
now through December

WE’RE OFF AND SELLING!!! Although it’s 95 degrees today let’s see if we can envision winter in Ocala! Imagine evenings by the fireplace surrounded by the beauty of red, white and pink Poinsettias. Now imagine this picture in the homes of your non-Jewish neighbors. The Poinsettia Committee has found a new grower in Georgia who comes highly recommended. We tried to buy from him last year but he was only able to put us on his waiting list. This year we have arranged to place our entire order with him, well ahead of schedule. Our prices will remain the same as last year, which says a lot in today’s market.

Small plants will be $13.00 and large will be $22.00 each. Please DO NOT give size measurements of pots since each nursery measures differently! Colors will be the same: red, white and pink which will be available in small and large. The combination plant (red/white) will be available in large only!

This is a Temple-wide Fundraiser and we need everyone to help. If a few extra plants are sold this year over last years total, we could top the $10,000.00 mark! This is our goal for 2007!

Everyone is invited to help sell or purchase plants for gifts. You will get a copy of your sales sheet(s) from last year which should assist for this year, so start writing down new contacts.

Scrip

TEMPLE BETH SHALOM
SCRIP PROGRAM

Stan Stein
Scrip Coordinator
9625 SW 92nd Place Road
Ocala FL 34481

Dear Fellow Temple Members

I will be placing our Chanukah scrip order about the 16th of November. Please try to get your orders to me by the 15th of November. We did about $10,000 last year with nearly $1,000 going to the Temple.

In addition, whenever I receive an order for $300 or more I can place the order immediately. I usually announce that at the ensuing Friday service so that anyone who has a small need can tack on their request and have the scrip in a week. In the August bulletin is a current order form (page 14). Please use it to place your order. Of course, if I get enough orders (excess of $300) before November, I will send them in immediately and you will get your scrip at once. At one time, this program was producing $3,000 to $4,000 per year for the Temple.

Check the order form for all the participating stores. If there are any you plan to shop, using scrip is a no-cost way to help the Temple.

Yours truly,
Stan Stein

IMPROVEMENTS—CHANGES TO SCRIP PROGRAM

In the 3½ years the scrip program has been in place the temple has received almost $8,800 in benefits. Please place an order outlined below.

In order to revitalize the revenue from the scrip program we will mail out an order form to every member in September. We will try this approach, if successful, 2 to 3 times per year.

Please return your order to me in the addressed envelope that will be enclosed with the order form or deliver it to me in temple prior to November 1st. All scrip will be delivered by December 1st. You will have two years to use the coupons without loss of value so please “everyone” place an order.

All participants must review each gift card and certificate after they receive it to become aware if there are any restrictions or expiration dates. Replacements or reimbursements will be honored only within 2 weeks from purchase dates. Read the back of the card. Make sure you review your purchase and understand any restrictions.

What Is Scrip?

Scrip is a term that means substitute money. When you purchase scrip, you're purchasing gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials. With every purchase, you earn revenue for our temple. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program, including Burdines, Dillard's, Sears, Home Depot, Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, and Carrabba's just to name a few.

How Scrip Generates Revenue

The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools, and other non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our temple buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours who utilize them at full face value. The discount -- from two to fifteen percent or more -- is our temple's revenue. Everybody wins! Why? Check this out:

  1. The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business.
  2. You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling.
  3. Our temple gets a regular source of revenue.

Scrip Is Shopping Cart Fundraising

Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don't have to sell anything. The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our temple without spending a single additional penny. Temple members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, dining out, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

Check this section on a monthly basis, as it will contain changes and updates to the order form. More locals will be coming!
